BREAKING: Maple Leafs re-sign David Kampf to four-year deal.
TSN’s Darren Dreger first reported the signing. As of early Wednesday afternoon, the contract had not yet been officially filed with the National Hockey League.
Kampf has become a valued member of the Leafs’ depth as the centre on the fourth line, providing coach Sheldon Keefe with defensive reliability at even-strength and on the penalty kill.Article content And Kampf is durable, having not missed a game, regular season or playoffs, with the Leafs since departing the Chicago Blackhawks to sign with Toronto in July 2021. The only other Leaf who played in every Toronto game in the past two seasons is forward Alex Kerfoot, who also could be re-signed before Saturday.The Kampf signing came after the NHL officially announced on Wednesday that the salary cap has been set at $83.5-million US for the 2023-24 regular season.
The Leafs have nine other players headed for unrestricted free agency, including forwards Ryan O’Reilly, Michael Bunting, Zach Aston-Reese, Noel Acciari, Wayne Simmonds and Kerfoot, and defencemen Luke Schenn, Justin Holl and Erik Gustafsson.
