A Nottingham neighbourhood is one of the most likely areas to be targeted by shoplifters in the country, according to crime figures. The area saw the third-highest number of offences for every ten shops in 2022 across England and Wales.
That was the highest numbers since 2019, the last year before the pandemic, when there were 367,000 crimes recorded. Chief executive Helen Dickinson said: "Many employees are facing threats with weapons, physical assault, and racial and sexual abuse. While these confrontations might be over in a matter of minutes, for many victims, their families and colleagues, the physical and emotional impact can last a lifetime."
“There are further concerns that a high number of incidents are not reported to the police due to historical low response rates. We need to see the relevant authorities use all their powers to deal with the situation, with a focus on anti-social behaviours and the use of the Community Trigger and Community Remedy powers.”
