Map: 4.0 earthquake in San Diego County
An earthquake of magnitude 4 was recorded Sunday morning in northern San Diego County, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake, at 9:46 a.m., was centered in Palomar Mountain State Park, 18 miles northeast of Escondido and 3 miles from the Palomar Observatory. The area is near the Elsinore fault zone. Within 10 minutes, the USGS Did You Feel It website had 650 responses, from the Mexican border to Riverside and Orange counties.
It was the biggest earthquake in California since a 4.8 on Jan. 5 near Deep Springs, in Inyo County, and the biggest centered in San Diego County since a 4.0 on Dec. 22, 2012, near Ocotillo Wells.
