Hodan Hashi, 23, died from injuries in an altercation in a Saskatoon bar on Nov. 5.
Fox said a stay of proceedings in a tragedy such as this is not made lightly.
Hodan Hashi died in the early morning hours of Nov. 5, 2022 after an altercation at Lit Nightclub in Saskatoon’s downtown, which shared the same building and ownership as the Crazy Cactus bar. “During the fight, the two women went to the ground and, tragically, Hodan Hashi was cut by a broken glass lying on the floor. Based on the evidence, that cut was the fatal injury that caused Ms. Hashi’s death,” the statement read.
Following her death, supporters called for justice for Hodan Hashi, a Black Muslim woman of Somali heritage, at vigils in several cities, including Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, Toronto and Ottawa.
