Alek Manoah stumbles in return to Rogers Centre as Blue Jays' winning streak ends
At least Jordan Romano was given the green light following a back issue. But when the Padres’ big boys are teeing off on inferior pitching by going deep four times, Romano was not required as this game was lost very early in the evening.
It was clear through three innings, if not sooner, that Manoah was not the same as he was in Detroit. Keep in mind, the Padres are a much better team than the Tigers, despite San Diego’s losing record. So much went right for Manoah in his return, so much went wrong when he faced San Diego in the first inning. Full counts were aplenty, there was an unfortunate call that went against him and an inability to put away hitters with two strikes bit Manoah.
Toronto kept its ace out of the Arizona series when he experienced soreness to his left side at Comerica Park. It’s retroactive to the beginning of the season, meaning the Bassitt family has already donated $120,000.
