A First Nation education resource centre has made a goal to have 5,000 children signed up to get free books through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

According to the Imagination Library's website, the program mails free books to children from birth to age five. The initiative was introduced in Canada in 2006 and now provides free books for children across nine provinces and territories.

She hopes that with the books coming every month, parents will get into the habit of reading with their children for 15 to 20 minutes a day."Books mean exciting adventures, using their imagination. Books mean that they can learn."Davis said the program aims to help parents understand that their children will have greater success in their education if the parents are involved with the journey.

The program at MFNERC has 1,250 children registered but there are 6,000 children in the 38 communities that are served by the resource centre.
