MLB commissioner Rob Manfred says he’s sorry for fans, but claims again that the A’s and MLB are not the reason why the team might leave Oakland.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred continues to show little interest to mend fences with A’s fans, using a media session in London to offer a sorry, not sorry response to criticism that he mocked and downplayed the recent fan-driven “reverse boycott.”attracted 27.

Asked two days later at the conclusion of the quarterly MLB owners meeting if he had watched any of the “reverse boycott”, Manfred said he had, and , “I mean, it was great. It is great to see what is this year almost an average Major League Baseball crowd in the facility for one night. That’s a great thing.”Friday, in advance of MLB’s London series between the Cubs and Cardinals, Manfred met with the media and was asked if he had any regrets about what he said about the A’s fans’ efforts. He said he was sorry for the fans, but again deflected any culpability from the team or the league.
“My comment about Oakland was that I feel sorry for the fans, that it was my initial and preference that we find a solution in Oakland. The comment that I made about the fans on a particular night was taken out of context of those two larger remarks. I feel sorry for the fans. We hate to move. We did everything we could possibly do to keep the club in Oakland. And unfortunately, one night doesn’t change a decade worth of inaction.
