Pirates are set to play host to last season's DStv Premiership runners-up AmaZulu this weekend when the two sides go head to head in the Second Round of the Nedbank Cup at Orlando Stadium.
Ahead of the highly-anticipated encounter, Buccaneers co-coach Mandla Ncikazi admitted that he would have preferred to have avoided the KZN-based side at this stage of the competition. "When I was watching the draw, I was praying to avoid at least four fixtures. Unfortunately, one of the fixtures I wanted to avoid was AmaZulu, for a number of reasons," Ncikazi said.
"The AmaZulu that are coached by Benni [McCarthy] are fighters. I think his personality comes through into his team. Previous matches between Pirates and AmaZulu have not been easy, and this match isn't going to be different."It will be a very tough match but if Pirates are going to do well at this tournament, this is the wall we have to go through. Maybe it's better to play against the opponents that you know than to play against that you have never seen.
"I am hoping that we gain strength from getting over this heavyweight that is AmaZulu. Preparations are going well, but preparations are only preparations until you write the real exams, which is the match."
