Manchester United suffered a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup quarterfinals despite a strong second-half comeback. While United manager Rasmus Højlund praised his side's fighting spirit, he conceded that Tottenham's clinical finishing proved decisive.
Manchester United manager, Rasmus Højlund , admitted that his side was undone by Tottenham Hotspur 's clinical finishing despite a spirited fightback in their 4-3 League Cup quarterfinal defeat on Thursday. United fell 3-0 down shortly after half-time but responded with two goals in seven minutes to breathe life back into the contest. They continued to press even after Son Heung-min extended Tottenham's lead to 4-2, but ultimately fell short.
'We disconnected at the beginning of the second half, it was a tough moment for us, like 10 minutes,' Amorim said. 'And then we returned, I think we did a great job. If you look at all the games, I think we were the best team but they were more clinical. We lost the game but the fight from the lads was really important for me. Overall, it was a good match but there’s no taste in that. We didn’t win; we need to focus on the next game.' Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag in November, acknowledged that 13th-placed United still have a long way to go before challenging for the Premier League title. 'We’re improving as a team. Our goal is to win the Premier League. How long it’s going to take? I don’t know but that is our goal,' he added
