Man United slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United hit their first speed bump of the season as they were defeated by Tottenham on Saturday.
The additions of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen a year ago were transformative and a driving force behind United's improvement but the lack of quality in depth was a concern. Fred, Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay were not good enough and performance levels dropped when one of them had to play.As a result, Ten Hag was desperate for improvements in the area this summer and wanted Chelsea star Mason Mount.
As Gary Neville said on commentary during the game: "Ten Hag wants a No.6 who can play alongside Casemiro and at the moment the club can't get players out to be able to fund that - if they look at the first two weeks of the season, they have to fund it or there will be big problems." City snapped up Croatian pair Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol from Chelsea and RB Leipzig respectively, while Treble winners Ilkay Gundogan departed for Barcelona and Riyad Mahrez moved to Saudi Arabia. Aymeric Laporte's future at the club is now a hot topic too after City accepted an offer from Al Nassr for his services. Keep an eye on that one over the next couple of days.
