LONDON, Ohio — A man and woman were shot and killed by State Highway Patrol troopers Wednesday after authorities say the duo kidnapped a driver a from a truck stop, led police on a chase and then fired on officers following a long standoff.
The ordeal began at about 1 a.m. when a London officer pulled over a vehicle on U.S. 42 because it had no rear lights or visible registration. The man and woman sped off during the stop, heading north to a truck stop where they they got out of the car and ran, police say. Authorities blocked off the road and began negotiating with the two suspects. At about 3:20 a.m., the patrol’s Special Response Team was called to the scene.
