He rejected his apology as a ‘political election stunt’ and said attempts by fellow Conservatives to support the North East Somerset politician just ‘added salt to the wounds.’ ‘You need to feel others. It doesn’t matter about diplomas or degrees, you need to have a clue about what is happening around you.‘‘Rees-Mogg doesn’t know what social housing is. He doesn’t have a clue. It’s almost as if he doesn’t believe it exists.‘This isn’t just about Grenfell and what happened in North Kensington. It’s about understanding every other inner city and deprived area.
Rees-Mogg hastily apologised, claiming he meant to say he would ‘have also listened to the fire brigade’s advice to stay and wait.’Jacob Rees-Mogg made his ‘insensitive comments’ on LBC Radio Instead, residents were told by firefighters to lock themselves inside for several hours as flames engulfed the tower block.
