'That has sparked a desperate scramble from United who are now contacting several leading clubs around Europe to see whether they can bring in a midfielder before tonight’s transfer deadline.'
The Red Devils revealed on Tuesday that the Danish midfielder is “likely to be out until late April or early May” after he was injured inA statement on United’s website read: “Christian Eriksen is expected to be out of action for an extended period because of an ankle injury sustained in our FA Cup victory over Reading on Saturday.
“Our Danish midfielder was withdrawn in the second half of the 3-1 win after being caught by a tackle from Reading striker Andy Carroll. “While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May.” Asked if he believes Man Utd had enough depth to cover Eriksen’s absence or whether they could make a deadline-day move, Erik ten Hag told reporters: “As you said, on deadline day it’s difficult.
“You can’t make policy on such bad injuries but we have players in the midfield department and good players. We have players who can fill that gap.”
