Jonny Evans scored a goal but it wasn't enough as Northern Ireland's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024 took another huge blow.
Manchester United defender Jonny Evans admits his own performance 'wasn't up to scratch' in Northern Ireland's 4-2 defeat to Slovenia on Thursday night.
Andraz Sporar gave Slovenia the lead within the opening three minutes of the match, and despite an equalisier from Issac Price, goals from Petar Stojanovic and Benjamin Sesko put the hosts 3-1 up at half-time. "I didn't think I played great myself. I know I got a goal, but my own personal performance probably wasn't up to scratch," he said after the defeat. "I'm experienced enough and wise enough to admit that. We can't be giving away cheap goals at the start of the game like we did.
Evans, who earned his 103rd cap on Thursday, feels he and the other experienced players, have a crucial role in helping a young side move forward over the coming months.
