Manuel Ugarte remains Manchester United's top target to strengthen Erik ten Hag's midfield this summer and there is growing confidence that a deal can be done before the transfer window closes.
Despite the ongoing stalemate, there is an expectation in some quarters that a deal will be done that will see the 23-year-old move to United. Ugarte has always been United's priority target for that position this summer, although a lack of sales has compromised their ability to spend after a £156m outlay on Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
