District officials said the man was wearing a black mask and black sweater, and driving a white van in 'poor condition' without a license plate.

Students on their way to Foose Elementary School Tuesday morning were approached by a man who wanted the children to get into his van, the Harrisburg School District said in an message to parents.

The man approached two students around 8:50 a.m. in the area of 15th and Sycamore streets, according to the school district. The district said the man was wearing a black mask and black sweater, and driving a white van in “poor condition,” without a license plate. The students arrived safely to Foose. Harrisburg police went to the school and got statements from the students, according to the district. The district said the police will also be on alert for a man and vehicle matching these descriptions.

Wendell Morris, the district’s security director, will be at Foose during Tuesday dismissal to ensure everyone is safe. “Please discuss with your children that they should never accept a ride with a stranger,” Superintendent Eric Turman said in the message to parents. “We will be sure to share this message with them, as well.”
