Barreto was conscious and spoke with the officer before being taken to the hospital for treatment, police said. Not long after Barreto notified police of the stabbing, another officer on the first block of South Prince Street — about three blocks away — saw a man, later identified as Alvin Serrano, with face injuries that matched the given description.During interviews with Barreto, he admitted to starting the altercation by punching Serrano in the face after he was “feeling disrespected,” according to the press release.
