A man shot by deputies in Park County is in critical condition at a Denver hospital.
The police shooting unfolded about 7:50 p.m. Thursday when deputies tried to make a traffic stop on U.S. 285 in Bailey, according to aThe driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser failed to stop and fled at speeds in excess of 100 mph, the release said. A pursuit was called off because of the “erratic and dangerous driving of the suspect.”
Deputies later spotted the Toyota in a ditch, just off U.S. 285, near Grant. The driver and a passenger, a woman, were inside a nearby residence seeking assistance with the ditched vehicle, the release said.The woman was “immediately arrested” without incident. The man “was found hiding in the home, and was shot by Park County Deputies following some type of altercation,” the release said.
The 45-year-old man was taken to a Denver area hospital where he remains in critical condition. No deputies were injured. Two deputies are on paid administrative leave per office policy.
