A Canadian man says he chose to burn his savings to keep his ex-wife from getting the cash in their divorce, according to theBruce McConville was sentenced to jail for 30 days after he told a judge that he burned $1 million in Canadian dollars to avoid having to pay his former wife spousal and child support as part of their divorce settlement, the newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The 55-year-old businessman, who once ran a failed bid for mayor of Ottawa, reportedly told a Superior Court judge that he took out the money — $1,050,000 in all — from six different bank accounts through 25 different withdrawals and kept receipts of the transactions, which amount to about $790,000 USD, as proof.
