Marshall Brooke wanted to create a place for people with autism not run by 'authority figures'
A man with autism whose life was transformed through stand-up comedy said he wants to help others find community and friendship after setting up an arts group run by and for autistic people.
He said the pair are also keen to work with groups who may experience social anxiety but find it hard to reach out, with a particular interest in working with people from ethnic minorities, going into schools and talking about social anxiety and how it can be tackled. "That felt like being controlled or not having your own environment so we wanted to create an environment for autistic people by autistic people.
Marhsall said: "We've also got support from organisations including the NHS, and there will be funding going forward, but first we've got to get the place up and running. It's a bit of a catch 22 but we're determined to make it happen."
