The National Sea Rescue Institute's Table Bay station commander, Quentin Botha, reported that a skipper reacted to a MOB alert and rescued a man who had fallen off the quay at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront:

The National Sea Rescue Institute’s Table Bay station commander, Quentin Botha, reported that while conducting routine training exercises at sea, the NSRI crew intercepted a Man-Overboard alert at around 1pm on Sunday, March 5 2023.The alert was initiated when a man was reported to have fallen off the quay at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

The NSRI crew recognised it as a real emergency and responded by cancelling the MOB exercise and activating the RABBIT code word. The local charter and ferry boats in the area reacted to the MOB alert, and the skipper of the local cruise charter boat Escape Cat successfully rescued the man from the water.

Upon arrival at the scene, NSRI medics conducted medical checks on the man and transported him to the hospital for further medical evaluation. The NSRI commends the swift response of V&A security, the emergency services, local charter and ferry boats, and the crew of Escape Cat for their prompt and effective rescue efforts.
