Three men dragged a girl, who was on her way to her boyfriend, into a nearby house and gang-raped her.
A 21-year-old man was sentenced to an effective 15 years behind bars for the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Butterworth, said Eastern Cape police in a statement on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said Luyolo Mqeke was sentenced in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Mqeke and two of his accomplices had gang-raped the teenager at Mission Locality in Dutywa in January 2012. Manatha said the men dragged the girl, who was on her way to her boyfriend, into a nearby house and gang-raped her.
Mziyanda Siphuka, 19, and Nkosiyakhe Tebe, 19, were last year sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each. Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze welcomed the sentence.
