Man hit by DART while taking shortcut across tracks was 'making good progress' before dying weeks later
Injuries sustained by a man after he was struck by a DART at Booterstown train station after taking a shortcut across the railway line were a contributory factor in his death almost two weeks later, an inquest has heard.
Mr King explained that he had the side window of his cabin opened to look down the platform to check there were no more passengers getting on or off the train. The driver, who admitted to being in a state of shock over what happened, said the train would only have been moving slowly as it pulled out of the station.
The witness said he believed Mr Fahy had decided to cross the railway line to try and catch the approaching southbound DART as he realised he would not have time if he used the footbridge. He suspected the deceased had not realised that the side of the DART would extend over the ramp unlike the platform.
Mr Sullivan said passengers who wanted to access the southbound platform at Booterstown needed to use the footbridge at the station.
