BREAKING: Man handcuffs himself to Buckingham Palace gates
Police have descended on Buckingham Palace after a man handcuffed himself to the gates. Metropolitan Police says a man believed to be in his 30s approached the gates shortly before 5.25pm today .
The man then handcuffed himself to the gates before threatening to harm himself, The Met says. Officers remain at the scene and are trying to resolve the incident. A spokesperson for Westminster police wrote on Twitter: "At around 17:23hrs a man approached the gates of Buckingham Palace and handcuffed himself to them. Officers in the area immediately approached the man, believed aged in his 30s, who began threatening to harm himself."LAS are also on scene. Police are trying to speak to the man and bring the situation to a swift conclusion to ensure his safety and welfare.
Eyewitnesses have reported a large police presence in response to the incident, with a cordon in place. Members of the public have been moved away from the area. The incident comes a day after King Charles' coronation was officially marked in Scotland, with a number of protesters booing and chanting during the occasion in Edinburgh.
