A man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon at a West Oakland homeless camp, authorities said.
The man was shot about 1:58 p.m. Tuesday at the camp in the 3400 block of Wood Street. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. authorities said.A motive for the shooting was under investigation. No arrests were announced.
The killing is the 53rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has also investigated four homicides this year on Oakland freeways. Last year at this time police had investigated 61 homicides in the city.
