Five bathers at an unprotected beach got into trouble and lifeguards of an adjacent beach were called in to help.
A 21-year-old man drowned yesterday afternoon in Umdloti after getting into difficulty at an unprotected beach on the North Coast of KZN.
“He was under for about 10 minutes before we found him. We were diving under and searching for him. Eventually we found him and brought him to the surface, but he was unresponsive,” he shares. Consequently, the lifeguards had to rely solely on torpedo buoys and fins to perform a rescue that required the use of motorised craft.
