Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted the Premier League clubs will need to vote on any changes to the associated party transaction rules if Manchester City win their case., the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed he doesn’t believe the 20 top-flight clubs want there to be no rules in place whatsoever.
Man City have pursued legal action against the Premier League regarding the APT rules currently in place, with the club claiming the regulations are “unlawful”. If the rules weren’t in place, clubs could agree sponsorship deals as high as they wanted with no challenge, increasing the amount they could spend under the profit and sustainability rules .Wyness believes it would be “open season” if Man City manage to win their case and suggested it could lead to there being no rules in place at all.“The commission may make a statement on this, but it will be up to the clubs to decide and vote on it.“The APT rules make sense.
“If the Premier League are defeated, it means it will be open season and no reason for rules at all to be in place.“I have got to believe there is going to be some kind of tweaking of the regulation rather than an overall cancellation of the whole thing.”
