Manchester City continued their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
Argentine international Julian Alvarez and Ruben Dias returned from City’s penalty shoot-out success against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup, while Newcastle went with the same starting line-up from their 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa last weekend.
City did though get ahead just past the half-hour mark when Phil Foden played Alvarez in on the cusp of the area and saw the forward opened an angle to blast off the finger-tip of Nick Pope. Eddie Howe’s charges turned up inspired in the second half and threatened to draw level through a snap effort near the area by Anthony Gordon, but he had his effort parried.

Methane Gas Cause of CBD Explosion - South African OfficialsAn investigation has found that methane gas was the cause of the deadly Lillian Ngoyi Street (formerly known as Bree Street) explosion that rocked the Johannesburg city centre. This was revealed by City of Johannesburg City Manager, Floyd Brink, during a media briefing. The explosion killed one person, injured several others, caused infrastructure damage and disrupted services in the area. Previously, senior City of Johannesburg authorities backtracked on their announcement on the cause of the Joburg CBD explosion, IOL reports. This came barely a week after Joburg City Manager Floyd Brink said that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. Brink doubled down, saying results are "still inconclusive on the cause of the explosion and what may have ignited the gas or the source of the gas in the underground tunnels".
