Officers say the incident appears to have been an 'isolated' one and that no wider threat is believed to be posed to the community
A 27-year-old man has been charged with offences relating to preparing a terror attack after an incident at a major hospital that saw patients evacuated and a bomb squad called in.
The BBC reports that a 27-year-old man was originally arrested in connection with explosive and firearm offences but was later re-arrested under the Terrorism Act. A cordon was established at the hospital in the northern city and patients were evacuated from the Gledhow Wing as a precautionary measure.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said: “These enquiries have confirmed our initial assessment that this was an isolated incident. We are satisfied that there is currently no evidence of an increased risk to the public, within our communities or the UK hospital estate, in connection with this investigation.
