A Nanaimo man is facing charges after allegedly threatening people at a local business with a children’s toy bow and arrow that had a syringe attached. Police were called to the parking lot of Port Place Mall just after 7 p.m. Monday to investigate the claim that a man was uttering threats and brandishing a disturbing toy-turned-weapon.

When authorities arrived, they managed to quickly track down the man — only for him to flee, prompting a short foot chase. The man was taken into custody after what Mounties are describing as a short struggle, and then held awaiting a judicial bail hearing.The following day, 32-year-old Adam Cajander was charged.
