John Sanders of Sandusky settled his federal lawsuit against Cuyahoga County for $1.5 million.
, a sheriff’s deputy, fired the bean-bag rounds from about 75 feet, hitting Sanders in the head, according to the lawsuit. Sanders lost his left eye.
Lourie had no training for the weapon he used when he fired out of a broken window at the Justice Center in downtown Cleveland. Lourie, according to sheriff’s department reports, fired wildly into the crowd and continuously asked a fellow deputy for more rounds to fire. Lourie, during his time as a CMHA officer, was accused of trying to persuade colleagues to lie to cover up his misconduct and for abusing members of the public, according to the lawsuit.
