A man has been arrested over the 1996 IRA bombing in Manchester city centre.
The suspect was detained at Birmingham Airport on Thursday night on suspicion of terrorism offences, police said. He remains in custody and will be interviewed by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing for the North West. A huge lorry bomb shook Manchester on 15 June, 1996, in an attack for which the IRA had given a warningThe attack was one of the largest bombs ever detonated in the UK and happened as England was hosting the Euro 96 football tournament.
“We have always been committed to holding those responsible for the attack to account and bringing them to justice and have been re-investigating for several years; with a team of dedicated detectives re-examining the original case files and pursuing new lines of inquiry.
