Jason Santiago Gonzalez is accused of firing the shots while officers were setting up a perimeter around his older, barricaded brother.

David Santiago Gonzalez was ultimately taken into custody after SWAT arrived. He remained jailed on $35,000 bail as of Saturday, according to inmate records. He pleaded not guilty to one count of possession of ammunition by a prohibited possessor, according to court records.

While officers were investigating that incident, they heard multiple gunshots twice over roughly a half hour, police said. Detectives determined the shots were fired at officers, but no officer or police vehicle was struck. How Jason Santiago Gonzalez was identified as the suspect in the two shootings toward police officers was not disclosed.

He was arrested on suspicion of five counts of attempted murder, one count of negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm and possession of methamphetamine for sale, police said. He was being held in jail on $5 million bail. “This unacceptable act of violence committed against our police officers serves as a stark reminder of the inherent danger in the law enforcement profession,” Chief Wally Hebeish said.
