Shaun Freeman and Delroy Chin both deny conspiracy to kidnap
Shaun Freeman, 29, is alleged to have been the ‘inside man’ who provided information including a car registration plate belonging to the man, to the group.
Throughout the ordeal the group left a cement mixer containing bricks and water running to ‘drown out the yelling and screaming’, prosecutor Henry Blackshaw said. He told jurors that in most conspiracies there is an ‘inside man’ who supplies information to ‘gangs’. He outlined the group’s movements days prior to the kidnap. On April 9 2019, the group travelled from Northampton to Manchester before checking out the lockup which was alleged to have been hired by Mr Freeman.
That morning, at around 9.30am, the victim was seen parking his Audi S4 outside Snipz Barbers in Withington. When he left around half an hour later, he was approached by Lowe, Ukaegbu and Bishop, disguised as police officers, the court heard. “They knew where he was because of the tracker on his car, put there by Mr Chin. They knew exactly where to go and where to pick him up,” Mr Blackshaw added.
“Why would they go to that trouble, that expense and that risk for a modest amount? Well their ransom demanded half a million pounds, made up of £400,000 in class A drugs and £100,000 in cash. In the wrong hands that could make multiple amounts.”
