74-year-old man dies in crash at University City intersection [Breaking]
A man was killed Thursday morning when he apparently ran a red light at a University City intersection and the SUV he was driving was hit by another vehicle, San Diego police said.
The collision happened about 9:18 a.m. on Eastgate Mall near Town Centre Drive. The driver, 74, and his passenger were headed west in a Mitsubishi SUV when he drove into the intersection against the red light, said Officer David O’Brien. A Honda Accord was traveling north on Town Center when it hit the Mitsubishi on its side, causing it to overturn and slam into a traffic signal pole, O’Brien said.The passenger in the Mitsubishi, a 73-year-old woman, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The Honda’s driver complained of chest pain. They were taken to a hospital.
