Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has made a bold admission about their CAF Champions League run. SLSiya Read more:
South African teams have had a very impressive run in continental football, however, Mngqithi believes that the Buccaneers did well and must be given credit, and instead suggested that Downs have had a poor run for the last three sessons.
"It's not a struggle, to arrive in the final for Orlando Pirates it is not a struggle. We must give them credit," Mngqithi told the media. "It is only us that must dig deeper because we've been beaten in the final for three years in a row and come up with solutions." Mngqithi says that the message to players about the importance of winning a trophy prepares their minds throughout the season and admits this that many errors creeped in during this campaign.
"We tell them it is important to put something on the neck. When you begin with the end in mind, everybody understands what is needed and you clear in your mind, not play for fun but for trophies. That culture is clear now and everybody understands what needs to improve," the coach added. "There are many areas we need to improve, we conceded some silly goals this season and we have to improve on that. Mamelodi Sundowns have to do better than this," he added.
