Malaysian authorities have shut down several schools and care homes linked to a charity group, GISB, following raids that rescued 402 minors and arrested 171 individuals. The move comes after viral videos allegedly linked GISB to the banned deviant Al-Arqam group. Authorities are investigating claims of child abuse and exploitation.

He further said that if the schools are found to be propagating deviant teachings, they would be de-registered and shut down under the state’s syariah laws. GISB leaders have denied that such practices took place within their establishment as well as the claims that it is a deviant group, as alleged by certain quarters.

“The dialogue included representatives from the National Security Council, Royal Malaysia Police and Home Ministry,” it said. He said the raids on 20 care homes on Sept 11 under Op Global were the culmination of a six-month investigation. Mr Razarudin said one of the police reports was lodged by a female former GISB member from Negri Sembilan, who then retracted the report.
