The Buccaneers comfortably won the Nedbank Cup last 16 match by 4 goals to 0, beating second-tier side Hungry Lions at Orlando Stadium. According to a source close to the player, the former AmaZulu FC midfield general was attacked by a serious pain on the left-hand side of his stomach, causing him to fall to the ground. The match had to be stopped for five minutes as the medical personnel attended to Makhaula, who left the field on a stretcher five minutes later.
"Then only thing he saw when he finally regained his consciousness were the oxygen masks that were on him. The guy had a very sharp sudden pain on his abdomen, and as a result, he couldn't breathe properly.
