A majority of Canadians believe China probably or definitely interfered in the last two federal elections, a new poll finds.

Of those polled, 53% say the federal government’s response to China has not been strong enough, compared to 41% who described it as about right and 6% as too strong. “Amid allegations Beijing attempted to influence the outcomes of both the 2019 and 2021 elections to ensure the federal Liberal Party formed a minority government over the opposition Conservatives, two-thirds of adult Canadians express belief that Beijing ‘definitely’ or ‘probably’ tried to meddle,” a statement from Angus Reid released Wednesday says.
