The freight train came off the tracks and crashed on September 6
Major works are to take place 'for several weeks' after a freight train derailed in Audenshaw. Emergency services raced to the scene of the incident on Sidmouth Street shortly before midday last Friday .
British Transport Police, as well as the fire service and paramedics attended the incident, with the area immediately cordoned off. The freight train had become tipped at an angle after coming off the tracks.In an update, Network Rail said the train, which was carrying aggregates, still needs to be moved. The area is expected to be closed for several weeks for repairs to be carried out.
And GB Railfreight, the freight company which owns the derailed train, apologised to anyone affected by the incident and said an investigation is underway. “There were no injuries and the driver is safe. This is a freight only line and the area will remain blocked until the train can be moved. Freight trains that are scheduled to be using this route will be diverted. However, as a precaution, Sidmouth Street is closed for safety reasons.
