Leading U.S. airlines have cancelled flights to northern Italy, adding to a growing list of carriers and countries suspending travel to coronavirus hotspots
its daily flight between JFK airport and Milan’s Malpensa airport until early May, but its flights to Rome from JFK and Atlanta will continue.
Earlier, American Airlines said it would temporarily halt its flights to Milan from New York and Miami until April 25, due to a fall in demand. That amounts to around 10 flights a week. Turkish Airlines, which serves the most countries of any global carrier, cancelled flights to Italy with immediate effect over the weekend, after suspending flights to China and Iran, two other coronavirus hotspots. to Italy citing lower demand, including budget carriers EasyJet and Wizz Air, while British Airways owner IAG warned there had been a “significant drop” to demand for flights to Italy.
