On Sunday, 29 October 2023, members attached to the Maitland Flying Squad swiftly operationalized information about a vehicle that was hijacked in Gugulethu. The members spotted the vehicle in Khayelitsha where an attempt was made to intercept the vehicle however, the driver of the hijacked vehicle refused to stop and a high speed chase ensued.

A shootout between the police members and the suspects ensued and two suspects, aged 24 and 28, were wounded. The members found a firearm with ammunition in the vehicle.
