On Sunday, 29 October 2023, members attached to the Maitland Flying Squad swiftly operationalized information about a vehicle that was hijacked in Gugulethu. The members spotted the vehicle in Khayelitsha where an attempt was made to intercept the vehicle however, the driver of the hijacked vehicle refused to stop and a high speed chase ensued.
A shootout between the police members and the suspects ensued and two suspects, aged 24 and 28, were wounded. The members found a firearm with ammunition in the vehicle. The suspects face charges of the possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, attempted murder and robbery.The views of authors published on South Africa Today are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of South Africa Today.
