I’m still playing catch-up on coverage following a three-month battle with COVID, and next in the long line of late reviews is Maingear’s MG-1 Ultimate desktop gaming PC. This is actually the first time I’ve encountered a Maingear machine in-person, though like many of you, I’ve been more than aware of the company’s premium reputation. In my head, it’s sort ofcomes in a variety of flavors: Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Legendary and Ultimate, which is the configuration Maingear sent over.

Peering into the clear front panel reveals a beautiful, cleanly presented motherboard , Maingear branded AIO cooler, twin sticks of glowing RAM, plenty of fans and enough RGB lighting to keep any energy drink-infused gamer happy. Around the swappable front panel area is a slightly rubberized coating that houses all your go-to buttons and inputs, like power, USB-C and a couple USB-A ports. The Ultimate, with its ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO motherboard, has plenty of additional ports around the back, although this feature set will obviously depend on which version of the MG-1 you end up purchasing.
