Over 140 people signed a petition objecting to the proposals

Plans to expand a Sefon football club have sparked controversy among local residents with nearly 200 objections to the proposals.

Some of the concerns raised by objectors signing the petition include fears the plans are a "business venture" and not inclusive, could create noise and light pollution, disturb nocturnal wildlife and impact on the capacity of local infrastructure. In a report produced by Sefton Council planning officers, it is stated that the club doesn't currently have covered stands for spectators to watch the team's matches.

Due to the existing sports facility at the site, officers said it was unlikely for residents to experience any additional noise and light pollution issues beyond what already exists but that floodlights could be positioned in such a way as to minimise light overspill.
