An inquest into the death of Sheffield United midfielder Maddy Cusack, 27, is opened in Derby.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who was the Blades' longest-serving female player, died at her home in Horsley, Derbyshire, on 20 September.An inquest into Ms Cusack's death was opened and adjourned in a brief hearing which took place at Derby Coroner's Court on Wednesday."Therefore, I am adjourning the inquest for six weeks for further review."
Ms Cusack was formally identified by her father David after her death at her home on Lady Lea Road, the inquest heard.Last season, Ms Cusack became the first player to reach 100 appearances for Sheffield United's women's team, which she joined from Leicester City in 2019.The club's women's and men's teams bothwrote a heartfelt tribute
in the Women's Championship team's matchday programme in which she said her close friend would "never be replaced". The club's chief executive Stephen Bettis said Ms Cusack's death was "heartbreaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane".
