Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson has refuted calls for his resignation from ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile following his opposition to the newly signed Expropriation Bill. Macpherson maintained his stance against expropriation without compensation and asserted that only his party leader has the authority to request his resignation.

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson has dismissed calls for his resignation following a demand by ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile . Mashatile urged Macpherson to step down for refusing to implement government policies , specifically the Expropriation Bill . Macpherson, a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), stated that only his party leader has the authority to request his resignation and reiterated his staunch opposition to expropriation without compensation.

\Macpherson emphasized that external political figures lack the right to dictate his actions, stating, 'No other leader or no other member of another political party will tell me when or how I should resign.' He criticized Mashatile's stance as 'arrogant' and detrimental to the functioning of the Government of National Unity (GNU), stating, 'It is that sort of arrogance that I think is unhelpful in the GNU and makes for unpleasant sort of encounters with one another we are all here to do a job.' \Mashatile, on Saturday, called for Macpherson's resignation after the minister voiced his opposition to the newly signed Expropriation Bill. This bill allows state agencies to expropriate property in the public interest, replacing the 1975 Expropriation Act. Mashatile asserted that any minister unwilling to implement government policies should resign, stressing the importance of adhering to the laws of the land. He stated, 'If minister Macpherson doesn’t want to implement the law, he must resign, because it means he doesn’t belong there. We’re not going to allow any minister in government to do as they like. We are appointed by the president, we are accountable to the president, we implement the laws of the land. That’s it. There is no two ways about it.' Mashatile further emphasized that Macpherson should raise any concerns directly with the president, rather than publicly stating his refusal to implement the law. He concluded by stating that the GNU is functioning well and that such disagreements are isolated incidents that the president must address decisively
