LULAC doubles reward for info on S.A. native at center of DeSantis migrant flights
FILE - Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis listens to a question during a press conference Sept. 7, 2022, in Miami, Fla. The Republican governors of Florida and Texas have delivered migrants on planes and buses to Washington, D.C., New York City and even Martha's Vineyard, but they may just be getting started.
DeSantis took credit for the flights, saying he sent the migrant-filled planes to Martha’s Vineyard so the “sanctuary” community could deal with the same complications border states are experiencing amid a record-breaking influx of migrants across the U.S.-Mexico border. He followed the lead of fellow Republican governors Greg Abbott and Doug Ducey of Arizona, who have been busing immigrants from their states to New York City, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.
Huerta put her condo in Florida up for sale over the summer and got an offer the weekend after the flights, though it fell through. Her townhouse is back on the market at a reduced price. According to LULAC and immigration lawyers representing the migrants, they were recruited near the Migrant Resource Center on San Pedro Avenue by Huerta and at least one Venezuelan man whom she paid $200 to help her find migrants for the flights.
