The first time Ron Casas saw Lucy, the wild turkey, in the backyard of his Tinley Park home was Christmas Day. “Where did this thing come from?”
Lucy, a wild turkey, has been visiting Ron and Betty Casas' backyard in Tinley Park for the last month.
“Where did this thing come from?” Ron recalled thinking when he first saw Lucy, who he named after actress Lucille Ball.Lucy seemingly lives up to her name calmly walking around the backyard as Ron and his wife, Betty, watch her from the window. Lucy often comes close to the window and does not shy away from standing on their back porch or perching on the railing.
Ron recalled feeding a half blind raccoon he named Buddy for a few years. Betty laughed remembering Buddy standing on the back porch with his paws on the glass door seemingly asking for food.But this is the first time a wild turkey has come to their backyard, Ron said. When he first noticed Lucy, he thought it would be a one-time sighting “but she seemed to be secure here” and kept returning, he said.
Ron Casas said Lucy, a wild turkey, walks around the backyard and is comfortable sitting on the deck railing.
