A source close to the police’s ongoing investigation told the paper detectives have identified 30 other babies who suffered “suspicious” incidents at the hospital where Letby worked., which will be led by judge Mr Justice Goss at Manchester Crown Court.
Ministers have previously announced plans to change to the law so criminals are forced to attend their sentencing. Letby is expected to at least receive a life sentence for her crimes, but could be handed a whole-life order, which is the most serious punishment available in the UK criminal justice system.
Under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, which passed through Parliament last year, the Government has expanded the use of whole-life orders for premeditated murder of a child.
