Kaizer Chiefs legend Lucas Radebe says the club’s ardent supporters cannot be blamed for their frustration about the club’s ongoing trophy drought. SLSiya Read more:
Chiefs’ cabinet trophy has not received silverware in the last seven years, something that has left the club’s fans frustrated, especially with their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns collecting all and sundry.
Radebe is someone who knows all about winning trophies with Chiefs, having lifted four trophies in his time with the team from 1989 to 1994. It is for this reason then that ‘Rhoo’ empathises with the club’s supporters who have been yearning for the glory days to return to Naturena. “You can’t falter the fans. At Kaizer Chiefs it’s us who set the standard and its us who has to maintain that standard and we’re gonna have to look at how we can do that. We have to bring ideas together and make sure that we bring the players that will sustain the level of football that is being played in this country,” Radebe told journalists at the Betway Sports Complex unveiling in Orlando, Soweto.
“It is a lot of expectations for the fans. They are used to trophies, they are used to great players in the field of play. So I think it will come,” Radebe added. One of the things Chiefs need to do according to Radebe is focus their scouting on the area of Soweto, which has proven to be a gold mine when it comes to unearthing talent for Chiefs over the years.
“The scouting will be very important and where they look at when they are scouting. Kaizer Chiefs village is not that far, they can send some of the squads and that’s what we need, the local homegrown stars that will take part in the national team and bring success and the glory days back,” he concluded.
